The aetiology of recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) has so far not been completely clarified. Recently, several studies reported that patients affected by cutaneous diseases (i.e. dermatitis, eczema and urticaria) with positive patch test to nickel have a positive oral nickel challenge.
