Due to side effects, such as hyperlipidaemia and insulin resistance, there is an increasing concern that antiretroviral drugs lead to an epidemic of cardiovascular diseases in HIV-infected patients. The present study characterizes the cardiovascular risk profile of HIV-infected individuals, due to the acquisition of HIV-infection.
