Gallstone ileus is an uncommon cause of small bowel obstruction, and its incidence peaks in elderly women. Although enterolithotomy has been accomplished laparoscopically, often using a laparoscopically assisted approach, controversy persists as to the indication, timing, and surgical approach to a cholecystectomy with closure of the cholecystoduodenal fistula.
