Despite success with the Maze procedure and its modifications in treating atrial fibrillation, longer procedure times and increased morbidity have precluded widespread use. The operative treatment for atrial fibrillation associated with aortic valve disease and ischemic heart diseases have not been established. We report the early results of epicardial radiofrequency coagulation on both atria and discuss the availability of this procedure.
