Plasma levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), indicating the sum of lipid peroxidation dependent and independent of cyclo-oxygenase activity, were measured in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients. MDA levels were increased in those patients most severely diseased. Higher levels of MDA correlated with more active RA.
