The advent of highly active antiretroviral therapy has affected many aspects of the management of AIDS-related opportunistic infections (OIs). Aspects of treating OIs of the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves and muscles are discussed, with emphasis on more recent developments in this area. Treatment for primary and metastatic central nervous system lymphoma is also reviewed.
