Human stem cell research may have many promising benefits, including giving us the ability to regenerate human tissue and organs, understand the process of early human development, and provide better models to test new drugs. However, it is very controversial and in many cases presently illegal because stem cells may be derived from human embryos or from a cloning process. This paper outlines the various techniques which may be used for deriving stem cells, the ethical problems such research presents, and suggestions for creating policy for human stem cells research.
