Because of their many health problems, older people are likely to receive a greater quantity and variety of medications. Every new drug added to a medication schedule will compound the risk of adverse reactions for the older population, who manage drugs less efficiently due to their altered body status, drug therapy becomes further complicated. To minimise the risks associated with drug therapy and ensure that medications do not create more problems than they solve, close supervision, education and adherence of drug usage in older adults are essential.
