This article reviews of recent data on the phenotypic markers and receptors of human and animal NK cells. It informs of the NK cell phenotypic heterogeneity and the functional dependence of NK cells on the modulatory action of their activating and inhibitory receptors. Moreover, it describes the NK killing mechanisms.
