The occupational health physician is in a unique position to provide total care for the returned traveller. In a sense, the physician packs and unpacks with the patient and ensures that other carers consider a wider range of disease possibilities than may be found in the home country. Follow-up tests and examinations are comparatively simple and where necessary specialist advice should be sought.
