Cytomegalovirus (CMV), Chlamydia pneumoniae (C. pneumoniae), and Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) have been implicated in atherosclerosis and restenosis after angioplasty. The patterns of distribution within coronary lesions and possible coinfections of these pathogens in the coronary vasculature had not previously been evaluated.
