Bacteremia occurs frequently after intestinal transplantation (ITx) in children. During our initial experience with this procedure, we noted that bacteremic episodes tended to occur simultaneously with the presence of rejection and/or gastrointestinal (GI) posttransplant lymphoproliferative disease (PTLD).
