Tumour doubling time, a parameter in drug sensitivity testing, reflects both cell proliferation and apoptosis. Variable apoptosis fractions may explain the poor correlation of S-fraction and drug response. DNA aneuploidy (reflecting intrinsic DNA instability) may, by increasing apoptosis, affect drug response.
