FUNCTION: Actin-binding protein involved in the regulation of neuronal process formation and in differentiation of neural crest cells. Probable substrate-specific adapter of an E3 ubiquitin- protein ligase complex which mediates the ubiquitination and subsequent proteasomal degradation of target proteins (By similarity). PATHWAY: Protein modification; protein ubiquitination. SUBUNIT: Part of a complex that contains CUL3, RBX1 and ENC1 (By similarity). SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Cytoplasm. Cytoplasm, cytoskeleton. Note=Interacts with the actin cytoskeleton. TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Primarily expressed in the nervous system. DEVELOPMENTAL STAGE: Expression is highly dynamic but mostly restricted to the nervous system. Outside the nervous system, expression is detected in the rostral-most somitomere of the presomitic mesoderm, at the times corresponding to the epithelialization that precedes somite formation. First detected in the brain and spinal chord of 12 PC embryos. PTM: Ubiquitinated and probably targeted for proteasome- independent degradation. SIMILARITY: Contains 1 BTB (POZ) domain. SIMILARITY: Contains 6 Kelch repeats. GENE SYNONYMS: Enc-1. COPYRIGHT: Protein annotation is derived from the UniProt Consortium (http://www.uniprot.org/).
