Polycomb group RING finger protein 4, RING finger protein 51
http://www.biopax.org/relea...
FUNCTION: Component of a Polycomb group (PcG) multiprotein PRC1- like complex, a complex class required to maintain the transcriptionally repressive state of many genes, including Hox genes, throughout development. PcG PRC1 complex acts via chromatin remodeling and modification of histones; it mediates monoubiquitination of histone H2A 'Lys-119', rendering chromatin heritably changed in its expressibility. In the PRC1 complex, it is required to stimulate the E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase activity of RNF2/RING2. SUBUNIT: Component of a PRC1-like complex. Interacts with RING1 and RING2 (By similarity). Interacts vwith CBX7 and CBX8. Interacts with SPOP. Part of a complex consisting of BMI1, CUL3 and SPOP. Interacts with E4F1. SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Nucleus. Cytoplasm. PTM: Monoubiquitinated (By similarity). May be polyubiquitinated; which does not lead to proteasomal degradation. MISCELLANEOUS: The hPRC-H complex purification reported by PubMed:12167701 probably presents a mixture of different PRC1-like complexes. SIMILARITY: Contains 1 RING-type zinc finger. GENE SYNONYMS: PCGF4 RNF51. COPYRIGHT: Protein annotation is derived from the UniProt Consortium (http://www.uniprot.org/). Distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivs License.
