NCI: Human MTNR1B wild-type allele is located within 11q21-q22 and is approximately 13 kb in length. This allele, which encodes melatonin receptor type 1B protein, is involved in the mediation of signal transduction. Genetic variation is associated with increased risk of type 2 diabetes.
