UMD: Prepackaged collections of devices and supplies designed for vessel harvesting using surgical procedures. These kits typically include appropriate instruments (e.g., scalpels, dissectors, strippers, cautery probes), cannulae, blades, and other supplies. Dedicated vessel harvesting kits are available for open (e.g., bridge techniques using special strippers) and minimally invasive surgical procedures (that may include special endoscopes). Endoscopic vein harvesting kits may be linked to dedicated external units (e.g., arms, lamps) or to external endoscopic surgical systems, including a monitor, a radiofrequency generator, an image processor, and light sources mounted on a cart or rack. Harvested vessels are mainly used as bypass grafts in coronary artery surgical procedures but are sometimes used to replace peripheral (e.g., lower limb) vessels; the kits may be also used for other dissection procedures (e.g., nerve dissection) through a surgically created subcutaneous cavity.
