NCI: EQ-5D is a standardized instrument for use as a measure of health outcome. Applicable to a wide range of health conditions and treatments, it provides a simple descriptive profile and a single index value for health status. It is a descriptive system consisting of 5 dimensions: mobility, self-care, usual activity, pain/discomfort, and anxiety/depression. Each dimension has 3 levels designated simply as no problem, some problem, or extreme problem, and subjects are asked to check the level most descriptive of their current level of function or experience on each dimension.
