NCI: Human A/G-specific adenine DNA glycosylase protein (546 aa, approximately 60 kD) is encoded by the MUTYH gene. This nuclear enzyme initiates repair of the mutagenic adenine/8-oxo-guanine mismatched base pair via removal of adenine from the DNA backbone. Decrease or loss of the enzymatic activity of this protein is associated with colorectal cancer.
