PDQ: An organic arsenic compound composed of the antioxidant glutathione combined with dimethylarsenic with potential antitumor activity. S-dimethylarsino-glutathione targets the mitochondria where it exerts its cytotoxic effect by disrupting electron transport and inducing intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) leading to changes in mitochondrial membrane potential. This induces G2/M arrest and leads to caspase-dependent apoptosis. Compared to inorganic arsenic compounds, S-dimethylarsino-glutathione has a more favorable therapeutic index.
