NCI: A radiopharmaceutic of short-lived radium-223 with potential anti-tumor activity. Radium preferentially binds to and accumulates in bone tissue. The radioisotope radium-223 may kill bone cancer cells through the local emission of high energy alpha particles, thereby potentially decreasing tumor progression in the skeleton.
