NCI: Human SMAD4 wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of 18q21.1 and is approximately 50 kb in length. This allele, which encodes mothers against decapentaplegic homolog 4 protein, plays a role in the modulation of signal transduction that is mediated by cytokines in the transforming growth factor beta superfamily.
