NCI: Encoded by human HRH2 Gene (GPCR1 Family), 359-aa 40-kDa Histamine Receptor H2 is an integral membrane protein that stimulates gastric acid secretion, regulates gastrointestinal motility and intestinal secretion, and may regulate cell growth and differentiation. Histamine is a ubiquitous messenger released from mast cells, enterochromaffin-like cells, and neurons; its actions are mediated by histamine receptors H1, H2, H3 and H4. HRH2 activity appears to be mediated by separate G proteins that activate adenylyl cyclase and PKC signaling pathways. (NCI)
