GO: Any process that stops, prevents or reduces the rate or extent of mitosis. Mitosis is the division of the eukaryotic cell nucleus to produce two daughter nuclei that, usually, contain the identical chromosome complement to their mother. [GOC:dph, GOC:go_curators, GOC:tb],NCI: A process that consists of interference with, or restraint of, activities that regulate the cellular capacity to transit the last cell cycle stage during which replicated daughter chromosomes separate into separate nuclei and cytokinesis occurs to produce separate daughter cells.
