Complement-Dependent Cytotoxicity

Source:http://linkedlifedata.com/resource/umls/id/C1516743

GO: Lysis of a cell resulting from triggering of the complement cascade. An example can be seen with complement activation and subsequent lysis of a bacterial cell as a result of the binding of IgM to the cell surface followed by the binding of complement proteins to that antibody. [GOC:add, GOC:rv],NCI: Activated by cell-surface bound antibody, by immune complexes, or by microbial membrane carbohydrate, Complement-Dependent Cytotoxicity involves complex cascades (classical or properdin pathway) of sequentially interacting serum proteins (some serine proteases), their receptors, and related regulatory proteins that generate Membrane Attack Complex, which creates target cell pores and lysis.
