UMD: Telemetric monitors designed to detect and transmit the electric potential between the retina and the cornea during ocular motion in response to visual stimuli (electrooculography), in such a way that waveform and pattern changes can be readily evaluated. These monitors typically consist of a portable radio transmitter attached to the patient and surface electrodes placed on the lateral canthi of each eye to take the electric signal and feed it into the transmitter. Electrooculography telemetric monitors are used to help diagnosis in certain types of retinal and/or neurologic diseases and also for assessing the short, fast movements of the eyes made during reading and sleep.
