NCI: A flavoprotein acting on NADPH and using quinone as acceptor. Inhibited by dicoumarol. [EC 1.6.99.2 created 1961 as EC 1.6.5.2, transferred 1965 to EC 1.6.99.2]. (from IUBMB),NCI: NQO1 is a 2-electron reductase that detoxifies quinones derived from the oxidation of phenolic metabolites of benzene. Synthetic antioxidants and extracts of cruciferous vegetables, including broccoli, are potent inducers of NQO1. Lack of, or lowered, NQO1 activity may make individuals vulnerable to leukemia secondary to chemical exposure. (from OMIM)
