NCI: Transcription factor Maf (373 aa, ~38 kDa) is encoded by the human MAF gene. This protein is involved in transcriptional regulation.,NCI: Maf family proteins possess a highly conserved basic leucine zipper (bZip) domain and are subdivided into large and small Maf proteins. The Maf family proteins appear to regulate cell differentiation processes and also cellular functions as partner molecules of CNC family proteins. (from Cytogenet Cell Genet 1998;82:88-90 and CGAP),MSH: Maf transcription factors are a family of basic-leucine zipper transcription factors that are closely related to V-MAF ONCOGENE PROTEIN. The C-MAF PROTO-ONCOGENE PROTEIN was the first mammalian Maf transcription factor identified, and now the family is known to include a variety of other Maf proteins such as MAFB TRANSCRIPTION FACTOR; MAFF TRANSCRIPTION FACTOR; MAFG TRANSCRIPTION FACTOR; and MAFK TRANSCRIPTION FACTOR.
