NCI: A cell adhesion molecule expressed in epithelial cells. Overexpression in breast cancer may be correlated with histologic grade and a predictor of poor prognosis.,NCI: A glycoprotein of 40 kD originally identified as a marker of rapidly proliferating tumors of epithelial origin.,NCI: Ep-CAM is a cell adhesion molecule expressed in epithelial cells and a ligand for leukocyte-associated immunoglobulin-like receptor 1 (LAIR1). Ep-CAM also binds to LAIR2. Ep-CAM may act to prevent an excessive inflammatory response. Over expression of Ep-CAM in breast cancer may be correlated with the histologic grade of the disease and a predictor of poor prognosis. (from OMIM 600718 and NCI)
