CSP: by juxtaposing and thereby bonding a pipette electrode to the surface of a membrane, one creates a small 'patch' recording field; often used with a voltage clamp, which is an electrical recording configuration in which an active source of regulated power is placed in series with an unregulated supply (e.g., bioelectric activity) to sense changes in the output voltage.
