NCI: Originally identified in the Rous sarcoma virus src transforming gene, Non-Receptor Tyrosine Kinase Genes encode Protein Tyrosine Kinases, enzymes important in control of cell growth, proliferation, differentiation, and transformation that do not function as receptors, but catalyze tyrosine phosphorylation of proteins with ATP, or other nucleotides as phosphate donors.
