UMD: Devices used to remove obstructions from (i.e., restore the patency of) enteral nutrition feeding tubes. Occlusion of the feeding tube can result from several causes, including inappropriate administration of medications, viscous formulas, poor flushing techniques, and aspiration of gastric or intestinal contents. The irrigation of chemical solutions without special devices is also used in declogging feeding tubes.
