MSH: The first to be discovered member of the angiopoietin family. It may play a role in increasing the sprouting and branching of BLOOD VESSELS. Angiopoietin-1 specifically binds to and stimulates the TIE-2 RECEPTOR. Several isoforms of angiopoietin-1 occur due to ALTERNATIVE SPLICING of its mRNA.,NCI: Angiopoietin-1 (498 aa, ~58 kDa) is encoded by the human ANGPT1 gene. This protein is involved in both signal transduction and angiogenesis.
