This species is motile by single polar flagellum, reduces sulfate and is catalase positive. D. desulfuricans is an infrequent pathogen and may be important in manufacturing for the bioreduction of metals including Uranium and Palladium. Phenotypically, it is indistinguishable from Desulfovibrio fairfieldensis.,MSH: The type species of gram-negative, anaerobic bacteria of the genus DESULFOVIBRIO.
