NCI: Any bacterial organism that can be assigned to the species Desulfovibrio piger.,NCI: A species of anaerobic, Gram negative, rod shaped bacterium assigned to the phylum Proteobacteria. This species is nonmotile, non-hemolytic and cannot reduce sulfate in the presence of acetate alone. D. piger has mostly been isolated from human clinical specimens and may be associated with inflammatory bowel disease.
