MSH: The variable phenotypic expression of a GENE depending on whether it is of paternal or maternal origin, which is a function of the DNA METHYLATION pattern. Imprinted regions are observed to be more methylated and less transcriptionally active. (Segen, Dictionary of Modern Medicine, 1992),CSP: inherently programmed modifications of the maternal and paternal genetic contributions to a zygote; leads to differentially expressed parental alleles during development and in adulthood; has been implicated as a cause of human disease.,NCI: The process by which one chromosome of a pair is chemically modified, depending on whether the chromosome comes from the father or the mother. These modifications lead to differential expression of a gene or genes on a maternally derived chromosome versus a paternally derived chromosome.,NCI: Parent-specific expression or repression of genes or chromosomes in offspring.
