Transitional epithelial cell of urinary bladder

NCI: An epithelial cell, found in the bladder, originally thought to represent a transitional form between stratified squamous and columnar epithelial cells. In the contracted condition the epithelium consists of many cell layers, whereas in the stretched condition usually only two layers of cells can be distinguished.
