MSH: A species of ENTEROVIRUS which is the causal agent of POLIOMYELITIS in humans. Three serotypes (strains) exist. Transmission is by the fecal-oral route, pharyngeal secretions, or mechanical vector (flies). Vaccines with both inactivated and live attenuated virus have proven effective in immunizing against the infection.,CSP: a common infection of the gastrointestinal tract which is usually silent; when the CNS is infected there is damage to the anterior horn cells and motor paralysis; causes similar disease in chimpanzees and monkeys when injected.,NCI: An enterovirus comprised of an single-stranded positive sense RNA genome and a protein capsid. This virus is the human pathogen that causes poliomyelitis.
