UMD: Prepackaged collections (either custom or standard) of the necessary equipment and supplies for inserting a urinary catheter into the bladder via the patient's urethra and immediately collecting the patient's urine (e.g., for a diagnostic test). Urinary catheters included in these kits are single use and are not intended to remain in the bladder beyond the time required to immediately drain the bladder/collect the urine specimen (e.g., a straight catheter intended for intermittent/self catheterization). Typical components of these kits include materials for prepping the patient, e.g., a sterile drape, germicide, underpad, sterile gloves, cotton/rayon balls and forceps, as well as the supplies needed for catheter insertion (e.g., lubricant, urinary catheter) and urine collection (e.g., a sterile urine specimen cup, pouch or bag). These kits are typically packaged as sterile, single-use items.
