UMD: Ambulatory infusion pumps designed to provide continuous or intermittent subcutaneous delivery of insulin to individuals with diabetes. These pumps are typically battery-powered, lightweight devices that can be worn in a case attached to the belt or carried in a pocket; they include a reservoir (similar to a syringe), a pumping mechanism, and an infusion-rate controller. The pumps infuse periodic microvolume pulses and bolus doses. Insulin is infused subcutaneously into the abdomen through a needle or catheter
