UMD: Detectors designed for detection of the normal electrical transmission (or failure) of electrical impulses from the atrium to the ventricles through a group of highly specialized natural fibers (i.e., the His bundle) in the heart. These devices typically consist of a specialized electrocardiographic unit that includes a pacemaker and a cardiac catheter with electrodes. The catheter is advanced up the inferior vena cava, across the tricuspid valve and into the right ventricle; then the catheter is withdrawn across the tricuspid valve, and into the right ventricle until a combination of atrial and ventricular activity is recorded (i.e., atrial and ventricular electrograms). His bundle detectors are used in operating and catheterization procedure rooms to determine the electrical activity of each part of the atrioventricular conduction system (i.e., to perform electrograms of the His bundle); they are used in electrophysiology conduction studies, to determine the limits of infarcted myocardium, in arrhythmi
