UMD: Bone grafts produced artificially (i.e., using synthetic materials) for replacement of a diseased or injured bone. These grafts consist mainly of porous and mesh ceramic materials that provide a framework for bone growth or of harvested sea coral (mainly hydroxyapatite) that works as an additive, extender, or framework for bone growth. Composite grafts, combining bone grafting materials and/or bone growth factors (e.g., collagen/ceramic composites) that resemble the composition of natural bone, are also available.
