UMD: Defibrillators-pacemakers that are permanently inserted (implanted) either abdominally or pectorally and are connected to the patient's heart through a set of epicardial and/or endocardial leads. These stimulators combine the energy shock capabilities of implantable defibrillators and the pacing mode capabilities of implantable pacemakers to address slowed heart rhythms (bradycardia) or certain classes of cardiac arrhythmias.,MEDLINEPLUS:
An arrhythmia is any disorder of your heart rate or rhythm. It means that your heart beats too quickly, too slowly or with an irregular pattern. Most arrhythmias result from problems in the electrical system of the heart.
