UMD: Instruments designed for cutting using a mechanism that performs a two-blade clipping action to cut an object or tissue (e.g., hair, nails) placed between the blades. Clippers are typically handheld instruments, either manually or electrically powered, used for personal hygiene or grooming; they are available in a variety of shapes. Standard and/or dedicated clippers are used in healthcare applications mainly for cutting nails or hair (on the head and/or body) during preoperative procedures; some clippers are designed specially for disabled individuals. Other instruments, such as scissors, razors, and nippers, are also used to cut hair and/or nails.
