NCI: A container capable of being hermetically sealed, intended to hold sterile materials.,UMD: Small, sterile, sealed containers, typically manufactured from glass or plastic, that are designed to contain a small amount (e.g., a single dose) of a substance (e.g., a drug solution). An example of an ampule design would include a small container that has a short body and a thin long neck/stem that can be manually snapped off in order to open the container and access the contents (e.g., with a syringe and needle).
