MSH: A species of gram-positive, coccoid bacteria whose organisms are normal flora of the intestinal tract. Unlike ENTEROCOCCUS FAECALIS, this species may produce an alpha-hemolytic reaction on blood agar and is unable to utilize pyruvic acid as an energy source.,NCI: A species of facultatively anaerobic, Gram positive, cocci shaped bacteria in the phylum Firmicutes. This species is catalase negative, requires folic acid for growth in culture, ferments arabinose and melibiose, does not ferment citrate, does not reduce tetrazolium and is a lactic acid bacteria.
