MSH: Small metal or ceramic attachments used to fasten an arch wire. These attachments are soldered or welded to an orthodontic band or cemented directly onto the teeth. Bowles brackets, edgewise brackets, multiphase brackets, ribbon arch brackets, twin-wire brackets, and universal brackets are all types of orthodontic brackets.,UMD: Devices (typically plastic or metal) that are bonded to an orthodontic band or directly to a tooth. These devices are used to hold an orthodontic wire and/or other appliance (e.g., rubber bands) that are used to apply pressure to the tooth in order to alter the position of the tooth.
