NCI: A tertiary amine possessing antimuscarinic and antispasmodic properties. Oxybutynin blocks muscarinic receptors in smooth muscle, hence inhibiting acetylcholine binding and subsequent reduction of involuntary muscle contractions. Oxybutynin is used to reduce bladder contractions by relaxing bladder smooth muscle.
