MSH: A polymorphonuclear leukocyte-derived serine protease that degrades proteins such as ELASTIN; FIBRONECTIN; LAMININ; VITRONECTIN; and COLLAGEN. It is named for its ability to control myeloid cell growth and differentiation.,NCI: Encoded by human PRTN3 Gene (Peptidase S1 Family), 256-aa 29-kD Proteinase 3 precursor is coordinately expressed with and packed in neutrophilic azurophil granules with ELA2 and AZU during myeloid development. An antibiotic neutral serine protease, PRTN3 appears to degrade elastin, fibronectin, laminin, vitronectin, and collagen types I, III, and IV by preferential cleavage at Ala-X and Val-X bonds.
