MSH: Factor isolated in a variety of tissues including epithelium, and maternal decidua. It is closely related to EPIDERMAL GROWTH FACTOR and binds to the EGF receptor. TGF-alpha acts synergistically with TGF-beta in inducing phenotypic transformation, but its physiological role is unknown.,NCI: Transforming growth factors (TGFs) are biologically active polypeptides that reversibly confer the transformed phenotype on cultured cells. Alpha-TGF shows about 40% sequence homology with epidermal growth factor and competes with EGF for binding to the EGF receptor, stimulating its phosphorylation and producing a mitogenic response (OMIM),NCI: Transforming growth factor alpha (TGFA) stimulates the growth and proliferation of cells, and its overexpression has been correlated with patient survival in a variety of tumors, including squamous carcinoma of the esophagus. In esophageal adenocarcinoma patients who received high-dose radiation and chemotherapy those with tumors that persistently expressed or that increased TG
